The ceremony marked an important milestone for Austral Fisheries and everyone involved in the construction of the vessel.
The MT1115 L, “Austral Odyssey” was designed by Marin Teknikk and built by Båtbygg in Måløy, Norway, the vessel embarked on her long voyage south to Mauritius, a journey that also served as a test of her capabilities in demanding conditions.
During the transit from Norway, the crew had the opportunity to truly put the vessel to the test.
– “We encountered two significant storms on our way south, and the vessel performed exceptionally well. The seakeeping capabilities are very good,” the crew reports.
“Austral Odyssey” has been specifically developed for operations in some of the harshest ocean environments in the world, and the experience from the delivery voyage confirms that the vessel meets expectations.
According to the owner, the vessel represents the next generation of sustainable and efficient fishing.
– “Austral Odyssey is a clear demonstration of our commitment to quality, innovation, and responsible resource management,” said CEO David Carter in connection with the launch.
He also highlights the collaboration between owner, designer, and shipyard as a key factor behind the successful result.
The vessel is equipped with advanced fishing systems, a modern processing factory, and a hybrid propulsion system with integrated battery capacity, contributing to both reduced emissions and high product quality.
The owner describes the newbuild as being constructed to an “exceptionally high standard,” with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and operations in extreme conditions.
The crew shares the positive impression:
– “This is a very well-executed vessel, and we are extremely satisfied with both the comfort and the onboard solutions.”
